Instructor: Shelly Castle Inspired by the bright yellow-viridian grasses of the wetlands, the Gulf’s warm aqua blues, screaming slashpine greens on the horizon against darkening sky of a coming storm, Shelly has made SW Florida home for her family and her own artistic inspiration. Having established Castlegraphics Art & Design Studio over twenty-five years ago, Shelly’s creativity has taken many forms, grown with our dynamic Gulf Coast. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Advertising Design in hand (emphasis in drawings and prints) from the University of WI, and artistic intentions at heart Shelly came to SW Florida with a dedication to the infinite muse of nature. A.soul-deep love and understanding of tourism brought from Door County has added empathy to dynamic landscapes in illustrated interpretive public displays for Local, Regional, and State Parks, visitor centers, and nature trails. Drawing and painting imagery presenting eco-educational issues, Shelly has been instrumental in the awareness and preservation of our uniquely pristine barrier island coast. Commissioned art has brought successful design to corporate identity systems, many other forms of promotional art, balancing expanding development with preservation . Murals, painted in dynamic realism bring nature’s grandeur to life in large scale to enhance and re-create the atmosphere of both commercial and residential environments. Over time creating art in all its many forms, Shelly has also passed along all the secrets, skills and inspiration of the arts to many students as mentor-based instructor for over fifteen years. As well, she has presented Art Therapy classes to Caregivers of Seniors and patients. The privilege and responsibility of sharing professionally-gained knowledge of widely-varied forms of artistic expression has enriched Shelly’s continually evolving personal artistic experience. Designing art has served promotional communication, exhibit, private or public commission, donation to charity, for the benefit of all viewers and patrons of the arts, to communicate, to delight, to surprise and thrill, to admire, to question, to learn and expand. Art connects souls. The creation of art for that basic purpose is a cherished gift to be shared.
Art of Design : Class Description Planning your artwork is a challenge. How to begin? Design impacts the results of your art from your original concept to signature. By understanding essential principles within every drawing or painting you’ll create the image more freely. Establishing the motion, pattern, structure of a subject is to be confident in re-creation of its true essence. This will surely bring to life the two-dimensional illusion of reality. Whether your artistic goal is to illustrate realism or abstract imagery, your art will become more layered with intriguing vision with deliberate composition. This class is offered to enrich your understanding of drawing and painting in your chosen medium. Each class will be focused on the creation of art from the aesthetic confrontation to finished piece. Initially blank, every white canvas, each empty page will be filled with your expression by carefully planned,organized use of composition techniques. Key elements of design will help you achieve an image from YOUR mind’s eye. Demonstrations will assist in understanding every stage of creation. A variety of mediums and styles will be explored, illuminated based on your challenges, artistic use of design bringing order to your artistic expression. Organized by the design system, your art will successfully convey your artistic intent. Your aesthetic message, whether abstract or crystal clear, will have powerful affect on the beholder, and ease your artistic soul. Taught in old-school style with current experience in digital landscape, Shelly will share her combination of skills and styles to enhance yours. The art of design is simply taking the time to design your art until the desired image becomes a masterful creation.
